I suppose when you have been nominated for New Bar of the Year in the 2013 Australian Bartender Bar Awards you need to be serving a few innovative, rock-star drinks; the Epic Bloody Mary is just that. The 22 dollar “Sunday only” drink can only be described as a total work of art; and very appropriately named!
To top it all off, the burger tasted awesome! I don’t really know why I thought it wouldn’t, maybe because it was a garnish – just a bit of wow factor, but the mini cheeseburger with a tasty bun and juicy meat was delicious! There was also a nice wedge of Dutch smoked gouda, and a cold cheerio. (I think they are referred to as “little boys” in Australia?!)
The Bloody Mary itself was pretty damn spicy, big chunks of chilli and plenty of cracked pepper.
Mechanics is the only Western Australian bar finalist in the 2013 New Bar of the Year Award; going up against Frankie’s Pizza, The Rook, Bulletin Place, The Wild Rover and Mojo Record Bar from Sydney, Mesa Verde from Melbourne and Cobbler in Brisbane. They are also up for a host of other awards – Bar Manager of the Year (Ben Tua), Rookie of the Year (Billy Ngo) and Bar of the Year State Awards, against Luxe Bar and Five Bar. Quite an accomplishment guys.
The next time I go to Mechanics for “research purposes” – cocktails!
